Private health screening is a consumer term for paid preventive appointments that review aspects of your health when you may not have acute symptoms. Packages vary widely. Some are relatively brief checks with basic measurements and a short blood panel; others are longer “executive” or multi-test assessments that add imaging, advanced biomarkers or specialist review. MHI treats these as one consumer pathway — private health screening — rather than inventing separate pages for every marketing label.
This is not the same as organised NHS screening programmes (for example breast, cervical and bowel screening), which follow national invitation criteria and UK National Screening Committee advice. It is also not the same as the NHS Health Check, a specific mid-life programme offered in parts of England for eligible age groups. Private packages are different again: you typically book them yourself, choose a provider, and pay for a set of tests that the clinic defines. That flexibility can help comparison, but quality, interpretation and follow-up vary.
A useful private assessment usually starts with history and examination, then selected tests matched to age, sex, risk factors and the questions you want answered. Results need clinical interpretation. Abnormal findings may lead to further NHS or private investigation. More tests do not automatically mean better outcomes — false positives and incidental findings can cause further investigation, cost and anxiety. A private package is not a guarantee that nothing is wrong, and it does not replace care when you have symptoms.
Before booking, compare what is included (consultation, bloods, imaging, report, follow-up), who interprets results, and how findings are communicated to your GP. Do not assume “executive”, “comprehensive” or “full body” wording means the same protocol everywhere.
This page is educational and comparative only. It does not diagnose, prescribe, or recommend a specific package.
Adults comparing private preventive check packages who want to understand what “health screening” and “health assessment” usually mean, and how they differ from NHS screening programmes. Less suitable as a substitute for urgent or symptom-led care.
Organised NHS screening programmes follow evidence-based criteria. The NHS Health Check is a separate mid-life programme. Private multi-test packages are not the same as either; the value of any private package depends on which tests are included, why they are chosen, and how results are acted on. Unnecessary testing can cause harm through false positives and follow-up.

No. NHS screening programmes are organised offers with defined criteria. Private packages are booked and paid for separately and vary by clinic.
Often it is a longer or more extensive private package under a different marketing name. On MHI, those offers are covered here as private health screening unless a modality-specific page (for example Full Body MRI) is more accurate.
Yes, unless a clinician advises otherwise. Private packages do not automatically replace NHS screening programmes.
